A Cat A refurbishment encompasses the interior of a building’s basic interior needs, including mechanical and electrical requirements such as lighting, toilets, air conditioning, and fire and smoke detectors. Also referred to as the ‘empty shell’ phase, this category doesn’t involve any customisation or interior specification.

Cat B refurbs are fittings designed to the client’s specifications. This refurbishment follows the unique design from installing partitions to create new rooms or offices, fitting furniture and specialist lighting, and kitchen spaces.

How long a refurbishment takes depends on many factors, primarily on the size of the space being refurbished. A small office refurb can take less than a week, which could continue to scale upwards as the size and budget needed go up.

The condition of the property and the complexity of the refurbishments needed are hugely important to consider when creating the timeline. These factors could extend the time required to make these changes as if your property is in need of lots of difficult refurbs, it will more likely take longer. Plus, if you need approval from landlords or local authorities, this could mean they take even longer.
